CARTER DREW HIS GUN
J.G. Rawlings’ Old Enemy had a Row in This City Yesterday. W.L. Carter who has received a great deal in notoriety during the last year or so on the account of his quarrels with J.G. Rawlings, and the subsequent murder of his two children, for which Rawlings and his two sons are to be hanged, got into a quarrel with Mr. Tom Corbett, of Lake Park, yesterday during the course of which he drew a gun about eighteen inches in length and threatened to shoot Mr. Corbett.
It is not known exactly what started the quarrel, though it is said that Carter was somewhat under the influence of whiskey. It seems that he got an idea that Mr. Corbett wanted to fight him. Corbett called him, so it is said, and asked him to come and have a drink.
Carter replied that Corbett was laying a plan to kill him, and he refused to go with him. A little later, on the streets, he had his pistol out and threatened to kill Corbett.
Chief Dampler arrested him and carried him to prison. Mr. Corbett also went to the city hall and gave a bond of twenty-five dollars for his appearance before the recorder next Monday morning, at which time the trouble will be investigated. Carter also gave bond and went on to his home.
