The hearing before the Board of Pardons will take place on October 13th, and Squire Jowers will also be present.

Despite the opposition of J.G. Rawlings and his sons, Milton and Jesse, their case is being taken to the pardon board to request that their sentences be commuted to life imprisonment. A telegram from Atlanta states:
“On October 13, the prison commission has decided to hear the application of Milton and Jesse Rawlings, who, along with their father, J.G. Rawlings, are sentenced to be hanged for the murder of the Carter children in Lowndes County, for commutation to life imprisonment.
“Mrs. Rawlings will appear to plead for the lives of her boys, accompanied by her father, Squire J.J. Jowers, and Attorney John R. Cooper of Macon, who has handled the case from the beginning.
“Word was received at the Capitol today that, yesterday in Washington, Attorney General John C. Hart filed a motion in the United States Supreme Court to advance the case of J.G. Rawlings on the docket. This case is pending in Washington on appeal from the Georgia Supreme Court, based on extraordinary grounds for a new trial. The court has not yet acted on the matter.
“The prison commission will also decide on a definite date to open the state reformatory and will issue formal notice to the governor.”
